Valira Torrent - bulletin of the Andorran Philatelic Study Circle. Issue 38, p8 (Nov 1993).
This year's race was the 80th in the series, although the race itself began in 1903 (the war years account for the missing ten years). This year's race began with a Prologue followed by twenty stages comprising a total distance in the region of 3800km. It took place between the 3rd and 25th July. For the second time in the history of the Tour, Andorra was visited. On the l9th July the 15th stage was from Perpignan to Andorra, a distance of 220km. The riders tackled the Port Envalira at 2407m - it was here that Jacques Anquetil set the foundation for his victory in l964. From here they went via the Col d'Ordino to Pal. After a rest day they then left Andorra by way of the Col de Canto (1720m) and Puerto de la Bonaigua (2072m), finishing the stage at Saint-Lary-Soulon.
