Valira Torrent - bulletin of the Andorran Philatelic Study Circle. Issue 8 (Nov 1978).
A "howler" occurs in Gibbons Catalogue over this stamp as they have "St Anthony singers" under the illustration. But "Encant" means auction (French "encan", Spanish "encante") and not incantation! As the stamp shows, an auction sale is taking place. Such auctions used to take place - possibly still do - on St Anthony's Day (February 2nd) and the proceeds went to Church Funds or to some Church organisation of which St Anthony is patron. The objects auctioned were traditionally gifts of sausages (as shown being hoisted aloft on the stamp), pigs heads and trotters etc, pigs being associated with this Saint, but gifts of cakes and wines were also included.
