Skiing

Over the last ten to fifteen years Andorra has developed into a popular skiing centre. It may not have the razzmatazz of the more established ski resorts, but it attracts a substantial number of skiers each year. There are now five ski resorts in Andorra catering for the novice as well as the advanced skier.

Arinsal

This resort lies between 1500 and 2600m. There are fifteen mechanical ski-lifts which take more than 11,000 skiers per hour, and give access to 28km of pistes covering 330 hectares in area. The resort offers the services of sixty alpine skiing instructors, as well as activities such as mono-ski and night skiing.

Soldeu el Tarter

With an area of 850 hectares this is the most important resort in Andorra. It is situated from 1710 to 2560m in altitude, and has 22 ski-lifts with a capacity of 1500 skiers an hour. The resort also has 12km of pistes as well as moto skis for hire.

Pas de la Casa - Grau Roig

This resort has 27 ski-lifts with a capacity of 26,865 skiers per hour and is, without doubt, the best equipped resort in Andorra. Situated at an altitude between 2050 and 2600m it offers a skiable area of 530 hectares. There are 42 pistes and 150 instructors, and also l64 snow cannons in case of poor snowfall! Excursions in sleighs pulled by huskies, including descent by torchlight at night, are also available.

Pal

At this resort, at about 2358m altitude, the skier finds himself in the heart of a nature reserve with stags, mouflons and squirrels around. There are 24 pistes extending over 30km. Capacity of the ski-lifts is 7000 skiers per hour.

Ordino - Arcalis

Situated between l940 and 2600m above sea-level, this resort provides 20 pistes covering 330 hectares. Here it is possible to practice ski-walking.

All these ski resorts benefit from ample hotel accomodation, although some travelling is necessary from areas away from the main resorts. Various facilities are provided for the visitor - creches for children, ski-schools and first-aid posts. Given the facilities and assured of ample snowfall, the ski resorts of Andorra can function for six months of the year.
