Valira Torrent - bulletin of the Andorran Philatelic Study Circle. Issue 36, p6 (November 1992).
The church of Sant Andreu of Arinsal is situated in the Parish of La Massana, near the village of Arinsal and at l505m altitude. It is private property, and has been entirely rebuilt over the last seventy years The church was probably built originally in the XIth or XIIth century. During its history it has been destroyed at least twice. The first destruction took place in the XIIIth century and the second in the XVIIth century, after which the church was abandoned. Only the foundation walls remained to assist its rebuilding during this century.
The church is of Roman-Lombard style and has a unique nave of rectangular form, covered by a vault and surmounted by a small bell-tower. A semi-circular apse opens out directly onto the nave. Numerous fragments of mural paintings have been found, as have some pieces of pottery originating from six or seven different manafactures. At the beginning of the church the predominant pottery is of a grey colour and is of mediocre firing. Glass objects of a more elaborate manafacture have also been found. The archaeological excavations also uncovered a cache of twenty-five coins, of which eight are early XIVth century.
